Ingredients

  • 8 slices white bread or sourdough
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • cups shredded cheese cheddar, American, or blend

Method

  1. Butter one side of each bread slice evenly, spreading to the edges.
  2. Place bread butter-side down and sprinkle cheese evenly on half of the slices.
  3. Top with remaining bread slices, butter-side facing up.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat and cook sandwiches until golden brown on the first side.
  5. Flip carefully and cook until the second side is golden and cheese is fully melted.
  6. Remove from pan, rest for 1 minute, then cut each sandwich into quarters.

Notes

  • Keep heat on medium-low to avoid burning
  • Grated cheese melts faster and more evenly
  • Best served immediately for maximum crispness
