Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
For the cream cheese swirl:
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • Softened 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8 or 9x9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Stir in cocoa powder, flour, and salt until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, beat cream cheese with sugar, egg, and vanilla until creamy.
  4. Pour most of the brownie batter into the pan. Drop spoonfuls of cream cheese mixture on top, followed by the remaining brownie batter.
  5. Swirl gently with a knife.
  6. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until the center is just set.
  7. Cool completely before slicing.

  • Use softened cream cheese so the swirl turns smooth, not lumpy.
  • Do not overmix the brownie batter after adding flour.
  • For clean slices, chill the brownies for 30 minutes before cutting.
  • Avoid over-swirling, or the cream cheese layer will blend too much into the brownie batter.
  • Brownies will firm up as they cool, so do not overbake.
