Ingredients

  • 2 packages chicken or turkey cocktail sausages 12 to 14 ounces each
  • 1 ½ cups barbecue sauce
  • ¾ cup grape jelly
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire-style sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons hot sauce optional

Method

  1. Drain the cocktail sausages and place them in a three- or four-quart slow cooker.
  2. Add the barbecue sauce, grape jelly, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire-style sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and optional hot sauce.
  3. Stir gently until the sausages are evenly coated.
  4. Cover and cook on low for two to three hours, stirring after the first hour.
  5. Once the sausages are hot and the sauce is smooth, switch the slow cooker to warm.
  6. For a thicker glaze, remove the lid and cook on high for an additional 15 to 20 minutes.
  7. Serve warm with toothpicks or small appetizer forks.
Stovetop Instructions
  1. Combine the barbecue sauce, grape jelly, mustard, Worcestershire-style sauce, and seasonings in a medium saucepan.
  2. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring until the jelly has completely melted.
  3. Add the cocktail sausages and stir to coat.
  4. Cover and simmer over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove the lid during the final five minutes when a thicker sauce is desired.

Notes

  • Check the package carefully to confirm the cocktail sausages are made with chicken or turkey.
  • Use a smoky or tangy barbecue sauce so the glaze does not become excessively sweet.
  • Drain the sausages well before cooking to prevent a watery sauce.
  • Keep the slow cooker on warm after the sausages have heated through.
  • The recipe can be doubled in a larger slow cooker for parties.
  • Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to four days.
