Chocolate Pie with Whipped Topping

Chocolate Pie with Whipped Topping is one of those classic, chilled desserts that never goes out of style. It’s smooth, rich, and silky with a creamy chocolate filling poured into a flaky crust, then topped with a cloud of soft whipped cream. It’s lighter than a cheesecake but richer than pudding, making it perfect for holidays, potlucks, or whenever you want a chocolate dessert that feels effortless.

If you love creamy treats like our Chocolate Pudding or the fluffy texture of 2-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse, this chocolate pie hits that same comforting note. It also pairs well with simple chocolate bites such as Chocolate Truffles or even a chilled slice of Oreo Icebox Cake on a dessert table.

Why You’ll Love This Chocolate Pie

  • No complicated steps
  • Smooth, creamy chocolate filling
  • Perfect make-ahead dessert
  • Crowd-friendly and easy to slice
  • Whipped topping adds a light, airy finish
  • A great alternative to richer treats like Hot Fudge Brownie Bread

Ingredients You’ll Need

This pie uses simple, pantry-friendly ingredients similar to the base of our Cream Puff Cake and the silky texture of Skillet S’mores Dip.

You’ll need:

  • Chocolate
  • Milk or cream
  • Sugar
  • Egg yolks or thickener
  • Butter
  • Vanilla
  • Prepared pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
  • Whipped cream or whipped topping

How to Make Chocolate Pie with Whipped Topping

1. Prepare the crust

Bake or blind-bake your pie crust if needed. Let cool completely.

2. Make the chocolate filling

Heat milk, sugar, and chocolate until smooth.
Whisk in egg yolks or thickener and cook until the mixture thickens.
It should have a glossy look similar to the base of our Nutella Brownies.

3. Stir in butter and vanilla

This adds richness and a silky finish.

4. Fill the crust

Pour the warm chocolate filling into the cooled crust and smooth the top.

5. Chill until set

Refrigerate at least 4 hours.
It will firm up just like the filling in our No-Bake Chocolate Oreo Pie.

6. Add whipped topping

Once chilled, spread or pipe a thick layer of whipped topping over the entire pie.
